YouTube Launches ‘'AI’ Tools to Protect Artists
YouTube is preparing to launch a pilot program of technology that will enable artists (or at least their rightsholders) to “detect and manage AI-generated content on YouTube that simulates their singing voices”.
The pilot will launch early in 2025 according to the company’s blog post yesterday, which also outlined some of its other “responsible AI” efforts to protect artists and creators. Those include more new tech to enable public figures “to detect and manage AI-generated content showing their faces on YouTube”. This is all about the deepfakes, in other words, be they audio or visual.
YouTube also hinted at plans to help creators on YouTube license their videos to AI companies for training their models, while cracking down on those companies scraping those videos without permission. “We’ll continue to employ measures to ensure that third parties respect these terms, including ongoing investments in the systems that detect and prevent unauthorized access, up to and including blocking access from those who scrape,” explained YouTube.
